Applications

Polyurethane enameled wire is widely used in high-frequency transformers, sensor coils, relay windings, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, and IoT devices. Its solder-through capability makes it the preferred choice for automated winding processes where stripping insulation would slow production. Also used in litz wire strand insulation for high-frequency power converters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is polyurethane enameled wire solderable without stripping?+
Polyurethane insulation thermally decomposes cleanly at soldering temperatures (around 370-400°C), allowing the solder to wet the copper conductor directly through the enamel. This eliminates the need for mechanical or chemical stripping before termination, significantly reducing production time in automated winding operations.
What is the difference between Class F (155°C) and Class H (180°C) UEW?+
Class F (155°C) polyurethane wire is the most common grade, suitable for the majority of electronic and electrical applications. Class H (180°C) uses a modified polyurethane resin that provides 25°C additional thermal headroom, making it better suited for applications with higher ambient temperatures or intermittent overload conditions. Both grades retain full solderability.
What is nylon overcoat and when should I use it?+
Nylon overcoat (UEWN) adds a thin polyamide layer over the polyurethane base coat. This improves abrasion resistance and mechanical durability during high-speed winding, making it ideal for applications involving tight slots or aggressive winding geometries. The nylon layer also improves resistance to solvents and varnishes used in impregnation processes, while still allowing solder-through termination.
What applications is polyurethane wire best suited for?+
Polyurethane enameled wire excels in applications requiring direct solderability, low dielectric loss, or easy pigmentation. Common uses include relay coils, small signal transformers, sensor windings, RFID antennas, hearing aid transducers, and high-frequency electronic components. Its low dielectric loss makes it particularly effective in RF and high-frequency circuits.
